There are some musicians who became famous overnight. Some are born into greatness, and others are plucked from day jobs or relatively obscure bands to become stars. Others became famous by joining major bands and performing tribute acts. In any case, it's a rare feat to become famous overnight. So what's the secret to overnight fame?
Alessandro Venturella
In 2014, Alessandro Venturella was working as a guitar tech for Brent Hinds in Atlanta. While working late at night, Venturella got a phone call from Slipknot guitarist Jim Root. In response to the call, Venturella rushed home to learn twice as many songs as he thought he would have time to learn. In order to practice for his audition, he started playing a few songs he had learned, down-picking them as hard as he could. Then he borrowed Mastodon bassist Troy Sanders' Zon four-string guitar, flicked the neck pickup on with the mid-boost engaged, and he practiced all night, playing only the fastest and hardest materials he could.
Venturella's sudden rise to fame came in the aftermath of a serious accident that took the life of Slipknot bassist Paul Gray in May of 2010. Venturella performed with Slipknot until his collapse and subsequent medical emergency.
Brian Johnson
The British singer first became famous as a child, appearing on the BBC TV series Top Gear. He was in the running to become the second fastest driver and tied with fellow contestants Simon Cowell, Kevin McCloud, and Jay Kay. He was introduced to fans by the show's host Jeremy Clarkson. The vocalist had previously married Carol, whom he divorced while writing the Razors Edge album. The couple had two daughters. Today, Brian lives with his wife Brenda.
AC/DC reunited in 2020, and Brian Johnson performed two classic songs with them. In addition to performing with the band, he was also joined by drummers Lars Ulrich of Metallica and Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins. The tour also marked the band's first reunion since their 1980 breakup.
Brian Johnson, the lead singer of AC/DC, was born in Newcastle, England. He began his music career singing in working-man's clubs. In 1980, he was replaced by Bon Scott. Johnson later wrote "Back in Black" for the band, which became their second-best-selling album of all time.
Blaze Bayley
The new Blaze Bayley album was released on 28 September 2009. The band ran a contest on their forum where people could win a signed copy. The album was called Promise and Terror. It was the most successful album in the band's history. Blaze then renamed the band.
Blaze Bayley's voice was a cunning one, resembling the voice of Di'Anno. He had a throat like steel and had a voice that rang with power and majesty. His performance of "The Trooper" and other classics was unmatched, and his career flourished.
Blaze Bayley's music has a deep emotional appeal. His "Watching The Night Sky" starts out as a fast, melodic track, before rising to a higher register in the chorus. Then, he follows up with the uplifting "Madness And Sorrow" and "Faceless", all sung in a beautiful, soaring voice.
Among his many accomplishments, Bayley is a veteran vocalist who has won the hearts of modern metal fans. He co-founded the multi-faceted English rock group Wolfsbane, and has played in arenas both large and small. He has also performed with Iron Maiden, which he left in 1999. He has ten studio albums to his credit.
Jason Newsted
When Michael Newsted became a rock star overnight, it was no surprise to hear that he spent his childhood summers at the beach, where he was awed by the beautiful sunsets. He also visited his family whenever he had time off from school, where he was proud to show them his Metallica albums.
Although he was not a founding member of Metallica, Newsted was the band's bassist during their rise to fame. Before joining Metallica, he also played with Ozzy Osbourne and Voivod. Since then, he has been involved in numerous projects. His latest project is the formation of his own band, Newsted.
In 1992, Kyes was in a car accident. The accident happened just a few months before Metallica was set to perform at the Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo. Despite his limited arm and hand movements, Kyes was determined to go to the concert. His wife, Connie Kyes-Myland, cares for Kyes.
Richard Fortus
Richard Fortus was not always so famous. He started his career in the early 1990s as a member of a rock band called Love Spit Love with Frank Ferrer and Richard Butler. The band went on indefinite hiatus in 2002, but Fortus has been a constant presence on tour ever since. In 2002, he toured with Slash and Duff McKagan as part of their Not in This Lifetime... tour. Fortus later joined the Danish band the Storm and played guitar on their album "Where the Storm Meets the Ground". Fortus is a personal friend of lead singer Pernille Rosenthal, and he has been playing with her for a long time.
After a year of touring, Fortus was invited to join Guns N' Roses. As a member of the band, he has enjoyed international recognition. In addition to his work with Guns N' Roses, Fortus has also been a member of the band Pale Divine.
David Coverdale
After a short hiatus from the music scene, David Coverdale resurfaced in the early 1990s with the new lineup of Whitesnake. His solo albums were not as successful as his Whitesnake days, however. His marriage broke up in 1990 and he went into seclusion for several years. However, his reemergence coincided with the rise of the '80s pop metal revival.
In 1978, David Coverdale released his second solo album, Northwinds, which received better reviews than his debut. Although the album did not receive a huge number of sales, it did get him back in the music business. He then began collaborating with fellow guitarist Jimmy Page. The result was a solid record, and it was better than anyone thought it would be. But Coverdale didn't stop there. He also toured with Zeppelin and released two more solo albums.
Coverdale also released two solo albums after his reunion with Whitesnake. His first album, White Snake, was a low-key, introspective effort that was inspired by the band's breakup. During the subsequent tour, Coverdale was joined by fellow guitarist Micky Moody. Coverdale and Moody co-wrote the songs for the album, which eventually became one of the band's biggest hits.
